Juliana Baron, CNM

Juliana, know to us as “J”, joined NWWC in July 2015.  She comes to NWWC by way of rural New Mexico. She received her R.N. in New York City at Phillips Beth Israel School of Nursing where she graduated Cum Laude.  She worked for nearly ten years in NYC at St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital on the busy Labor and Delivery unit as well as in the hospital based Birthing Center.  She moved to New Mexico to pursue a more out of doors life and pursue a master’s degree in Nurse Midwifery from Frontier Nursing University where she also graduated Cum Laude.  While she was in New Mexico, she worked as an R.N. at Gila Regional Medical Center in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and the New Born Nursery.  She taught pre-natal classes, did postpartum home visits with the First Born program, apprenticed with a local home birth midwife, and helped a friend open the first birth center in Silver City.  During her final year of midwifery studies, J interned on a Navajo reservation in Tuba City, where NWWC\’s midwife Lydia Hammond coincidentally had worked.

J has extensive experience with un-medicated Labor and Birth, and she brings all of her experiences with her to every birth she attends, along with respect and reverence for the process of birth.  J is passionate about educating women about their own bodies and health, and the health of their families. J also implemented the prenatal classes held at NWWC where we teach a four week series each month.

When not at work, she enjoys a multitude of creative endeavors, as well as hiking, indie films and listening to the blues, and she might even try her hand at comedy!
