As OB/GYNs, we have the privilege of walking alongside our patients through some of life’s most meaningful moments—from the first positive pregnancy test to holding your baby for the first time, and so many milestones in between.
We know those moments deserve to be celebrated.
Whether you’re sharing exciting news with family and friends or simply soaking it in yourself, there are so many fun and meaningful ways to mark these milestones.

Pregnancy Announcements
For many families, the first big moment is deciding when and how to share their pregnancy news.
Some prefer a quiet, personal approach by telling close family first, maybe over dinner or a phone call. Others love a more creative reveal, like incorporating siblings, pets, or a favorite hobby into the announcement.
We’ve seen everything from:
- “Big sibling” t-shirts and surprise gifts
- Ultrasound photo reveals tucked into cards
- Seasonal announcements (holiday ornaments, pumpkins, etc.)
- Simple but meaningful photos at home
There’s no right timeline and no “best” way. Go with what feels right for you and your family.
Gender Reveals & Baby Showers
These gatherings are often less about the theme and more about the people.
Some families are leaning toward smaller, more intimate get-togethers, such as backyard brunches, coffee meetups, or casual open houses. Others enjoy more traditional showers with games, decorations, and a full guest list.
For gender reveals, we’ve seen families keep it simple with:
- Cutting a cake or cupcakes filled with color
- Opening a box of pink or blue balloons
- Sharing the moment privately before telling others
And for baby showers:
- Book-themed showers where guests bring their favorite children’s books
- “Diaper and wipes” gatherings focused on practical support
- Co-ed celebrations that feel more like a relaxed party than a formal event
There’s been a noticeable shift toward celebrations that feel less stressful and more personal.
Welcome Home, Baby
Bringing your baby home is one of the most emotional milestones and often one of the most quietly celebrated.
After the excitement of delivery, many families are simply soaking in those first few days together. But even small touches can make the moment feel special:
- A favorite meal waiting at home
- A cozy, prepared space for baby
- A simple sign, balloons, or flowers to mark the moment
- Photos on the front porch or nursery
We’ve also seen families create small traditions around this moment with something they repeat for each child, like a first photo in the same spot or a special keepsake.
Celebrating Beyond Birth
The celebrations don’t stop after the newborn stage and some of the most fun moments come later.
We love seeing families continue to mark milestones like:
- Baby’s first birthday
- First holidays with a new baby
- First steps or big developmental milestones
- First day of preschool or kindergarten
These moments may seem small at the time, but they become part of your family’s story.
And lately, we’ve seen more families bringing a little creativity into these celebrations—especially with outdoor displays or personalized touches that make the moment feel a little bigger and more memorable.
A Note from Our Team
One of the things we value most at Northwest Women’s Clinic is the sense of community we share with our patients, and also within our team.
We love highlighting the people who care for our patients every day, and sharing a glimpse into what they’re passionate about outside of the clinic as well.
Our Patient Billing Specialist, Colleen Kangas, creates custom yard displays for special occasions like baby announcements and gender reveals as a franchise owner with Card My Yard. It’s been fun to see how she’s helping families celebrate such meaningful moments in a creative, visible way.
