The certified nurse-midwives at NWWC are excited to provide you with high-quality modern healthcare combined with the art of midwifery. As the word midwife means “with woman” it is our aim to walk with you on the journey of your and your growing family’s health. You can expect that your midwife will listen to you, help address all your questions and requests, use evidence based care, and provide personalized care that makes you feel comfortable. WHO ARE CERTIFIED NURSE MIDWIVES? Certified Nurse Midwives (CNM) are registered nurses who have completed a graduate program in Midwifery. CNMs are independent providers of health care. We are licensed in the State of Oregon, can write prescriptions, and have admitting privileges to hospitals. CNMs have collaborative relationships with physicians in the event of a medical problem. WHAT KIND OF SERVICES DO WE PROVIDE? Midwives at our office provide the following services: prenatal care, labor and delivery support, postpartum support, annual gynecological exams, contraception, breast exams and evaluation and treatment of common gynecological problems, menstrual irregularities, menopausal management and referrals for mammograms. WHAT MAKES A MIDWIFE DIFFERENT FROM A PHYSICIAN? As Midwives we are trained to support and manage healthy, “normal” pregnancies and gynecological care. Although we regularly manage medical problems that arise in pregnancy and beyond, we do so within a collaborative relationship with an Obstetrician. Our Obstetricians are trained to manage high-risk medical problems and are trained surgeons. Pregnancy care by the Midwives at Northwest Women's Clinic generally includes: WHAT SERVICES DO THE MIDWIVES AT NORTHWEST WOMEN'S CLINIC NOT PROVIDE? We do not provide home birth, water birth, or vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC) services but can answer questions and perhaps direct you to such services elsewhere in the community. |
